Why I decided to start this blog…

About Me:

Hello! My name is Zoe and I am an Adult Beginner Figure Skater. I started my skating journey by taking my first steps (or marches) on the ice on May 31st of 2025.

Figure Skating, has always been something that I have wanted to do. But like so many other adults, I was under the illusion that it is really only for children. So as I got older, the thought and want to skate got smaller and smaller.

One day though something just clicked. Getting to work, I would always see an ice rink on my daily commute. And eventually I got to thinking, “surely there must be group classes for Adults”. As I started looking into it more I found out about something called Learn to Skate. I am US based, so this is specifically about the US LTS program, although there are a lot of other beginner programs all over the world.

Goals for the blog

There are a few goals that I have for this blog.

The first and most important goal is just to give myself a space to document and share my journey. One of the struggles with being an Adult Beginner Figure Skater, who maybe is a little TOO passionate about skating, is that there aren’t a lot of places to really just share and word vomit everything that I want to say about skating.

But with this blog I am able to say and share anything that I want to about skating, my thoughts about skating, and also my journey. So bare with me if you decide to read my posts, there will probably a lot of things that could be more concise, clean, and polished. But I want to make sure everything I post is authentic to myself, so it will probably be: needless long, messy, and unstructured.

Another goal is just to share my journey in general. It will be really nice to be able to look back and reflect on how far I have come, what goals I managed to achieve, what things I stumbled on, and just being able to see growth and progress over time.

Other than just having it as something for myself, I also hope to be able to give an idea on what an Adult Beginner Figure Skating journey may look like. One of the tough things in skating, is that progress is NOT equal for everyone, this is even more-so true for Adults. But I found myself frustrated with the lack of information on what someones Adult journey looked like from seeing posts/videos online.

  • It seemed to be a mix of the following:
    • Returning Adults who skated as a child
      • There weekly progress was astonishing, but also not a great barometer for myself.
    • New Adults who had never skated before, but didn’t have the same level of time that I wanted to put into skating.
    • Beginning Adults who were already years on their journey.

I am hoping that my blog and documenting my journey may show what is possible for an average Adult who is starting skating, and maybe has a little too much time to put into it.

I am far from what I would consider a natural or talented at skating. However I do manage to have passion and drive, to put in the time and effort needed to see progress as time moves forward.

Anyways I look forward to sharing my journey/progress/struggles with anyone who chooses to reads.

Bye for now, Zoe ❤
